Some Turkey, Some running and some TV

I spent a lot of time in my bed this past weekend. I should be ashamed to have wasted 4 days off of work that way but really, it was fantastic. My mom is on the injured list right now so she wasn't able to join us in the Naperville Turkey Trot 5K but I ran with some of my other family members and it was fun. I was an unhappy woman getting up so early on a day off but I am very excited to report I got my best time in a 5K yet and I ran most of it alone since my dad opted to help the kiddies run.

After the run we had breakfast and went back to my parents to start cooking and watching the parade. I am the only one left in the family who makes it a point to get up and watch the parade while I bake so I made sure we DVR'd it before we left for the run. It was quite fun to have them watch it with me this year! I made some of my delicious Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies(I will add the recipe to the recipes page tomorrow).

Friday I did manage to leave the house for a bit during the day to do some shopping for myself. I braved Target knowing I needed shampoo badly! I also went with T to have some sushi and see Breaking Dawn for the 2nd time. I told you all I would end up seeing it more than once! We found this yummy and reasonably priced Sushi place by my apartment that had an amazing roll that was actually vegetarian!
Saturday was spent in bed watching Friday Night Lights. I am new to the show and thanks to Netflix I can spend hours catching up! I love love it!!

Sunday I went to my parents and we went downtown to Macy's to take a picture with Santa...I would share it but my mom hasn't posted it yet. We had dinner at the Walnut room, which is delicious and lives up to the hype! If you are ever in Chicago check it out!

Cinnamon Toast-Hot apple cider, amaretto and cinnamon!!
My nephew you would not smile in any pictures and was giving us a hard time but we managed to get him laughing in at least one picture!!

Or all it was a great weekend and I am so wishing I could do 4 days off all over again!! Can't wait until Christmas!!

Holiday Blog Challenge

I decided to join up with this fun blog Challenge. I still have to do a quick recap of my holiday weekend but trust me it wasn't that interesting! Check out Neely's blog and link up with me! I am a day behind but Day two is:
Favorite Holiday Tradition New or Old

My absolute favorite holiday memory is opening the gifts on Christmas morning. We all know that a certain someone does not really exist now but that doesn't stop us from opening presents in the morning every year. When it was just my sister and I we would get up very very early and drag my parents to the living room. When my younger brother was born he would force us all up and drag us to the living room and now that my nephew is around they both get up ridiculously early and drag us to the living room. I am 26 now but every year I go to my parents and spend the night, wear some cute pajamas and prepare myself to get up seriously early to open up presents that I usually helped my mom wrap. I don't know where I will be in the next few years but I hope to always be there Christmas morning to wake up with my family.

I think this is Xmas 2009

Yes that is me believe it or not

Link up so I can learn some fun Holiday things about you!

Things to be thankful for...and some not...

I am a day early but that is because I will probably try my best to avoid touching a computer tomorrow. I am getting up unnecessarily early to run the Naperville Turkey Trot 5K with my family in the morning which means I will not be partying tonight like most of the nation. I actually rarely do go out for Black Wednesday, I prefer to sit at home and drink while I bake and get ready for Turkey day. I love the holidays, I wish that we were doing things the usual way going to my mother's place but one of my cousins called having it at his house first and so I am stuck going there. Not that I don't love my extended family but when you put that many Puerto Ricans in a house together...well...yea it can get really loud. Anyway on to the thankful and not so thankful list.

- I am thankful that I am here for another Thanksgiving
-I am thankful for my amazing parents, brother, sister and nephew(they make my heart happy)
-I am thankful for my amazing friends and all the emotional support they have given me this year
-I am thankful for my job however frustrating it might be
-I am thankful for blogging and all the amazing things I have been introduced to in the blogging world
-So So thankful for internet w/out it my life would be a mess
-I am thankful that I am finally starting to feel better about my decisions this year
-I am thankful that I dont' have any crazy things I need to buy on Black Friday so no standing in line
--I am not so thankful that this is the first Thanksgiving in over 5 years I am single
(I rarely got to actually spend the holidays w/The Boy because of his work but we always enjoyed them)
--I am not so thankful that I will not get to spend this holiday feeling a certain way because of some decisions I made this year.

Thank goodness there is much more to be thankful for than not.
I hope everyone out there has an amazing Thanksgiving.
Eat a ton and hug everyone you love, be thankful for it all :)

Breaking Dawn

So of course I went to see the movie at midnight as I have the last two. I didn't see the first one at midnight because I actually happened upon the movie when a friend was in town. After that I became a huge fan and read the books( in like 4 days) I love the story and the characters and definitely don't care that it is not really meant for a 26 year old. Love stories are always great and what woman doesn't love one between a vampire, a human and a werewolf? Even though I am a fan I never fail to mention how disturbing and borderline psychotic the love between Bella and Edward really is. I mean come on ladies, if a man was creeping into your room at night to watch you sleep you might have to call the cops. Still, I love it. I saw this little link up at Marcy's. I probably should have taken this yesterday but it still counts!

1. Are you going to see the Breaking Dawn
Yes, I did of course! I went with my sister & brother and even though we got there at 10:45 the theater was packed!

2. Scene you're most looking forward to in Breaking Dawn?
I was most looking forward tot he honeymoon, I was dying to see how they handled it AND it was fantastic for a PG-13 rating. Ooh and I love LOVED her dress!!!

3. Team Edward or Jacob?
Jacob all the way. Going simply by looks I think he is gorgeous w/that sexy tan and cheekbones to die for...lets not start on the abs. But I do love his character as well, he is such a sweetheart and for most of the books he is getting his heart stomped on.

Come on look at that jawline. seriously.

4. Favorite book in the Saga?
I think my favorite book was still Twilight. I read it after seeing the movies and I still think it was the sweetest one.

5. Favorite character in the series and why?
I actually am also a huge fan of Bella's Dad. He is so sweet and cares so much for her and his character is funny in a "not trying" kind of way.

6. Why do you love Twilight?

I love a good love story. I love that there is a pull in Bella's heart not to lose Jacob. Even though as I mentioned above it is a bit borderline crazy(think Romeo & Juliet) I think it would be amazing to find someone I could love nearly that much. All that and the fact that I love supernatural stories. Just so much Love.

7. Are the books or movies better?
I think they are both great because the books are so detailed and paint even more of a love story in your mind but the movies give you the characters that you always imagined.

 8. What do you dislike about the series?
I wouldn't say there is anything I dislike except that there is only 1 more movie left and no more books to read :(

9. Your craziest fan moment.
I am going to have to say going to the midnight shows is as far as it goes for me. I am too damn old to be obsessing over vampires and werewolves and staying up late with all those tweens.

10. Do you have a Twilight collection?
I do have the movies and the books. I considered getting a poster but I am not sure where I could put it where I wouldn't be judged.

I love this photo. Both men look super hot :)

If you saw the movie or are just excited to see it let me know :)

My healthy lifestyle contract

I've been making some poor decisions  lately and the main one has been taking care of my own health. I was very vigilant and working really hard for a long time on weight loss and becoming a healthier person and then I life get in the way. I want to take back my control. I don't just want to lose weight, though anyone knows that is a great result but I want to be healthier. I want to make smart decisions about what is going into my body. So this is my healthy lifestyle commitment to myself.
Wish me luck!!

I ,  Monica  , hereby agree and commit to take the following steps to improve my accountability to myself and increase my chances for weight loss success:
  1. I will not let one small slip-up convince me that I'm stupid, worthless, or a lost cause. I will respect myself by refusing to engage in verbal self-abuse, and I will find positive ways to comfort and support myself when I’m having a hard time.
  2. I will not sacrifice my own needs to make other people happy, or do for them what they can and should be doing for themselves. When there is a conflict between my exercise and eating plans and what other people want me to do, I will negotiate to find a reasonable solution that allows me to do what I need to do for myself.
  3. I will remember that I do not need to exercise simply to indulge myself but rather to have a healthier and more fit body. I will not allow myself to be discouraged by what I think I "can't" do but rather set goals to break down those obstacles.
  4. In conjunction with #3 I will set reasonable goals and plan ways to attain them in a healthy way.
  5. I choose to be in charge of my own decisions and behavior. I will not talk, think, or act as if my partner, child, spouse, cravings, or subconscious made me do it. I will ask myself what’s most important to me at that moment and make my decision. If I don’t like the consequences, I will try something different the next time.
  6. I will not engage in anymore crash diets in a need for immediate results but rather make lifestyle changes so that I can see long-term success rather than instant gratification.
This contract is being made for myself, for my own personal growth and my only reward will be a healthier lifestyle.

Friday Rambles

Well I can't think of an exact theme for today so it might just be a jumble of nonsense otherwise known as a ramble?

1. I just bought 3 tickets to the Breaking Dawn midnight premiere for next week. My younger brother and sister will be joining me while I drool over the sexiness that is Taylor Lautner. By the by I just read that he is actually legally old enough for me to have these thoughts about him now. I try hard not to think about him being born after 1990(it makes me cringe a bit)

I might have shared this before but just in case.

2. I have officially begun my round the clock Christmas music listening. Today I got to hear Michael Buble tell me how he wants me for Xmas and then unfortunately I was subjected to a new Justin Beiber Xmas song. I know that this will keep happening since I listen to the local radio station. If you have Iheart Radio listen to 93.9  all Christmas music straight till the Holiday itself.

3. I have made it a point to avoid Pinterest today...though now that I have written this it is likely I will go on there and spend the rest of my day not working.

4. I saw this and well...I just had to share. I am a big fan of Mad Men

5. I am convinced now that I have joined the single girl world and have #singlegirlproblems that I am going to attract all the psychos, weirdos, and all together crazies in the greater Chicagoland area. Terrified.

I think that may be it for now...

No I tried to dress myself like an outfit I saw on Pinterest...don't laugh this picture is not so great.

Anyway...that really is it for now :) Enjoy the weekend!!

Ahhhh Pinterest!!

OOoh Pinterest what have you done to me?? This is serious, thanks to all the blogs that I read and the constant mentions I joined a few weeks ago but only in the last week did I really start to give the site my full attention. I am doomed....seriously doomed. I downloaded the app to my Iphone so now I can stand at the L stop and drool over adorable crafts and delicious foods and outfits I would kill for but can't possibly afford.

This weeks drooling led to me purchasing this adorable jacket that I had to have, in black though.

I found a dress that I absolutely have to have for New Years Eve but I am not sure if it will be a success or not...still debating. Its not for sale yet but you better believe I added myself to the email list.

Looking at outfits like this wishing I could learn to put together an outfit like this. I realized that almost everything on this Polyvore site is wayyyy out of my price range but I am determined to find some outfits and put them together from places in my price range :)

Last but not least I found this recipe the other day for Pumpkin Cheesecake brownies and they were a HUGE hit at work. I work with about 30 guys and they love you to death if you bake for them and I love them to death for eating it all so I don't gain 20 pounds. I don't really like much of pumpkin anything but I do like a few things and these were yummy!

I didn't use the recipe from Pinterest but I will add the recipe later

I have developed a Love/Hate relationship with Pinterest...

Men...and alcohol

I had a conversation with a friend today about men...actually I had a few conversations about men today. I think it might have been in the air. Back to my point, most women, myself included are attracted to the wrong kinds of men. The bad boys, the losers, the degenerate gamblers, liars, pricks, cheaters, broke ass fuckers, ooh sorry that last one was just mean. Even though we know these men are bad for us we still find ourselves wrapped up in a blanket crying over them like spilled milk. Men, my friends, are like alcohol.

Now if you have a relationship with alcohol similar to mine you will understand. If you don't, well you should still freaking get it.

Alcohol is bad. It is bad for you in small quantities, it is bad for you in large quantities. You shouldn't drink it everyday because well the reality is that is damaging to your body and overall health. We know this right? Its told to us as children, there is a legal drinking age for the stupidity that comes with alcohol consumption. If you are a responsible adult they say you can have alcohol and still be "responsible". That is bullshit too since it will still kill you. Yea, you heard me even those responsible assholes that have 1 glass of wine with dinner and not the whole bottle plus some can die from cirrhosis of the liver ooh and they can still be hit by the drunk driving asshole that had the whole bottle plus some.

Anyway, I digress. The point of all of this was that Men are like alcohol. Particularly bad men. The ones you shouldn't marry or get pregnant by. They are bad for you in small quantities, in large quantities, if you have them every once in a while or every day. They are damaging to your overall health as well. Mentally they drop kick you in the brain and leave you kind of emotionally stupid. If you are lucky they don't give you an STD or knock you up with a kid they don't want or beat you. But like I said, they do damage you.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Because it just feels so good. Something about alcohol(duh scientifically we know the reason behind it) but something...that warm fuzzy feeling, the lightheaded giddiness. It just feels so fantastic and you can't help but keep it going. And then...well then you have too much of it and well we have all had one bad hangover at some point in our lives. Same thing with a bad man. Something about him (again there is a scientific explanation) but something about him when he is around or touching you gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, that lightheaded giddiness. And then...well when he does something that makes you realize he is bad like for example; tells you he is married, cheats on you, steals all your money and disappears, lies about anything.(these are all examples from research of course) and you wake up with this horrendous hangover that leaves you feeling like you took a sledgehammer to the knees.

Basically bad men and alcohol are shitty for you. If you can step away and get into rehab, if you can't well...your fucked.

Happy Halloween!!

Yes I am a day late but you  know how that goes. I had a very interesting weekend with K in town and even though we dealt with a lot of drama from her Jamaica trip we had a great time and I am super happy to have seen her :)

I loved our costumes and we saw some pretty damn great ones! It took us days of sewing and forever to perfect it all but in the end I loved them!

How fun was that costume!?! So far this has been my favorite costume I have worn though I did really love last years Ninja Turtles!

Here is our company picture too!

OOoh and of course I have to include a picture of me and K!

My younger brother and nephew have to get some love because I think is seriously the cutest picture ever!

OOkie thats all for now! What were you for Halloween send me a link so I can see all the great costumes out there!!!
