Christmas Link-Up: Foodies Edition

I am usually the designated dessert maker for the holidays. For Christmas my Andes Mint Chocolate Cookies seem to be a big hit...

I also like to make a side or two...

Garlic Almond Green Beans

Because I am not a fan of green bean casserole at all.

Patti LaBelle's Mac & Cheese

I learned how to make it a few years ago and it became one of my go to's for parties & holiday dinners.

This year I want to try a couple new dessert recipes to make for my coworkers & The Boy's

Andes Mint Brownies
In case you hadn't noticed I love chocolate & mint!

Christmas Crack that I saw over at Mandy's Money

Salted Caramel Pretzel Cupcake

I'm not sure these have any holiday purpose but I really want to try them...and then eat them all.

Go link up this week and share your Christmas foods!

NYE Party Ideas...

So since The Boy & I finally decided to just go ahead and throw an NYE party it is definitely time for me to get my act together and start planning!

We chose Roaring 20's as our theme so I have begun to scour Pinterest for appetizer & decoration ideas.

I am trying to find some kind of game or activity to go along with it too, so if you  have any ideas please throw them my way and if you are in Chicago come over!

I plan to have a few of the usual appetizer type things you would find at a regular party but I want a few that are of the theme...any ideas???

This makes me realize I have a lot of work to do.....

This weekend was all things Christmas and it was great! I can actually say it was the best weekend I have had in months...I got to spend time with The Boy, my family and both of my best friends.

All our Christmas fun started with a visit the Macys Santa downtown:

Holding our place in a almost 2 hour long line...

After 7 years together The Boy & I took our first Santa picture together
Then we went off to the Christkindlmarket for some grub & shopping. Luckily it was snowing and around 30 so it wasn't too awful to be outside.

It is impossible to take a cute selfie when layers of clothes arms just don't move as well as they should.

Sunday started with a friend throwing her annual Christmas Tea Party. I loved the idea and she throws great themed parties. I think there were about 30 women in the house!

The youngest member of the group :)

I made a meetup for the Couples Group I have to go to the Zoolights at Lincoln Park Zoo. We were not lucky enough to have good weather on Sunday night. It was around 14 and very windy. The 3 couples that showed up were great and we ended up having a fantastic time with them.

So overall...a fantastically(made up word??) festive weekend!

Have you done anything festive in your City yet?

Secret Santa Swap Reveal!

I love any kind of gift swap and doing them through blogs is always so much fun. I get to learn about a few new blogs, shop for a stranger(which can be either fun or stressful depending on the info given) and then, of course, I get mail.

I love mail...any  kind..I really do! So if you like to send snail mail please feel free to get my address and send away!

I still am not sure who my Secret Santa is  but I had Leeann over @ Join The Gossip and I am very guilty of accidentally putting my information down when I sent my gift. I went back and read the info after and realized I was not supposed to reveal who I am! Ooops!

How awesome is that! I love love Reese holiday treats and a new mug always makes me happy! I have started a collection of ornaments when I finally do put up a tree so that will be a great addition!

Thank you so  much to whoever it is!!

On Motivation...

First let me just say that it is F**king cold in Chicago. I know I know it will get worse and I should stop whining but seriously. The coldest it got where I was in China was about 30 so this is ridiculous! I hate snow...and I would actually rather it be snowing right now, at least then it would be warmer.

So now that I have complained about the weather we can talk about motivation...of which, I have none. I have been struggling to get some semblance of a workout plan since I came home in July. When I arrived back on US soil I was the most fit I have been since High School. Since then...well I've gained almost 30 pounds. I would like to believe that I was really bloated yesterday and the scale at the doctor is a lying evil bitch but that is probably not the case. The truth is...I lack motivation.

Do you have this problem?? If it is cold where you live how do you keep up your workout plan?

I genuinely miss doing Insanity with my coworkers in China and our made up bootcamp style workouts outside. Now that it is cold I have to force myself to get to the gym...which clearly hasn't been happening.

So...blogger world. I need some motivation!!! If you have any at home workouts, blogs that have great workouts, anything I am all ears(well technically eyes)

Monday Mornings

After my drive this morning I am starting to take the idea of moving out of Chicago seriously. I hate snow. I know I know...everyone complains about it but I can't help myself. I am a terrible driver when the roads are clear so add in snow and I hate the world even more.

I wish I could say I had some amazing exciting news for this Monday but I don't. I had a good weekend, the school's staff Holiday Party was this weekend at Cafe Ba Ba Reba love that place! Whats a better way to spend your Saturday night then tapas and Sangria...and its all free!

Sunday the family went to the Walnut Room at Macys downtown. This place... its definitely a tradition and its always a great time and the food is good. We waited 2 hours this time, which is just fine if your walking around and if your seeing Santa(we did not this year because my sister & nephew were missing)

What did you do this weekend? Do you have any Holiday traditions or places you visit with family this time of year?

Waiting in line

The Great Tree in the Walnut Room
Frango Mint Chocolate Cheesecake

On History....

I had a post idea...the usual Five on Friday but I realized I wanted to take a little time out of my day to express sadness that Nelson Mandela has passed.

So I figured I might share my favorite of his quotes:

This world was lucky to have him for 95 years making it just a little bit better.

"Man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished." (From Long Walk to Freedom, 1995)

Rumchata Hot Chocolate Recipe!

The Boy convinced me to make him and his family members some hot chocolate for their Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl game and I decided to make it a more fun and alcoholic recipe!

It is actually pretty simple and I promise that anyone who tries it will love it! I'm including the basic directions and then notes on extra things I did.
*ignore the cans in this picture The Boy put the wrong ones in the picture!

1 bottle of Rumchata(750 ml)
2 cans of Sweetened condensed milk
1 carton of Heavy whipping cream
2 bags of broken up Andes Mints(or the chips)
4 cups of milk

*Need a crock pot or you could possibly let it simmer for 2 hours(but be careful to watch it doesn't burn)

- In Crock pot mix all ingredients together, cook on HIGH for 2 hours, stirring occasionally

The night before I put the Rumchata and chocolate in the crock pot and let it sit overnight. In a separate container I mixed all the dairy ingredients together and let them sit in the fridge overnight as well. In the morning I poured the dairy mix into the crock pot and let it cook for 2 hours on HIGH.

On Holiday Weekends!

Seeing as how I had a 5 day weekend you would think I would have blogged Weds-Friday but instead I did my very best to avoid going anywhere near the computer. I spend a lot of time staring at a screen and my eyes were so thankful for a break.

So a quick recap of my weekend:

Weds...sleeping in...making cookies and Rumchata hot chocolate prep for Thanksgiving. (Tomorrow I plan to post the recipe for the Rumchata hot chocolate and you all may just love me forever)

Thanksgiving was great....very low key and different from the previous years. We got up and ran the Turkey Day 5k in the morning... My sister went to Louisiana with her boyfriend and my nephew so my parents, brother & I went to an aunts house and enjoyed way too much food!

Friday I finally got to see Catching Fire and it was amazing as expected. I really need to work on my bladder issues. I peed right before the movie started and really avoiding drinking anything and still felt like I might burst before the movie ended.

Saturday & Sunday was a lot of downtime and just enjoying the nicer weather we had. I went to a Friendsgiving for The Boys friends, had a lunch catch up with Snifferella and decorated the tree at my Mrs. M's with my siblings....

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you get any shopping done??
